Chapter 10 · DESKTOP
Artifacts with AI, connected apps and data
Artifacts can do more than display static content. Some use Claude capabilities, connect apps or store data. Understand who authenticates, what is saved and what happens when the result is shared.

Steps
- Start with a simple result and one action, such as summarizing text entered by the user. Make sure the interface explains what it sends for processing.
- If the artifact uses Claude, check availability and whose account usage applies when it runs. Do not assume the creator's subscription pays for everyone.
- Connecting an app requires authorization and an access-scope check. Connect only the service needed and distinguish reading, editing and disclosure.
- If data is stored, test persistence, reopening and sharing. Device-local storage, artifact storage and shared data are not the same thing. Test with sample data before using real information.
Common pitfall: A working preview does not prove the artifact works after sharing or for another user.
Hands-on exercise: Build a small tool with sample text, run it twice and identify what is transmitted and what persists. Do not connect a real account for this exercise.

Recap
Comprehension check
What should you test when an artifact stores data?
Recap
- AI does not remove usage limits
- Connections need clear access scopes
- Test persistence and sharing with sample data
