The Complete Claude Guide
Chapter 19 · WEB

Account settings and privacy: memory, incognito, Reflect and quiet hours

The web interface centralizes memory, privacy and digital-wellbeing settings: what Claude remembers from chats, incognito conversations that are not saved, and the monthly Reflect recap of your usage patterns. Understanding the differences matters before you handle sensitive conversations.

Steps

  1. In Settings > Memory, review what Claude remembers: you can inspect, edit and turn it off. Searching past chats is available on paid plans, and incognito chats are excluded from memory and search.
  2. An incognito chat starts from the ghost icon in a new chat outside a project: it is not saved to history, does not enter memory and is not used for training, but it is retained 30 days by default and on Enterprise it is included in organizational data exports.
  3. In Settings > Reflect, open the monthly recap: themes, peak hours and observations on four AI fluency skills. The recap is in beta for Free, Pro and Max, appears only when memory is on, and is not available on Team or Enterprise.
  4. From the recap you can open Time and focus settings to set quiet hours and break reminders, giving you control over usage rhythm.
Common pitfall: Incognito is not full anonymity: the chat is kept for a retention period and on organization accounts owners can see it in exports. Do not use it for what must never be said at all.
Hands-on exercise: Open Settings and check which options your account has: Memory, Reflect and incognito. Note what is on and off, and decide on a personal policy for sensitive chats.
