Choose privacy and focus settings deliberately
You will inspect memory, understand Incognito and decide whether Reflect and quiet hours fit your use. This exercise needs no sensitive conversation or irreversible reset.
Sources checked September 30, 2026 distinguish history, memory, retention, monthly recap and focus reminders. These settings do different things; one switch does not control all of them.
Inspect before changing
Open the intended account and Settings. Read saved memory Topics and the memory/search controls. Record only non-sensitive observations, such as “memory enabled”, not private topic contents.
Pause retains memory but stops use and generation. Deleting a topic differs from deleting a chat; derived memory can remain. Reset is destructive and is unnecessary for this exercise.
Test Incognito with harmless text
Start a new conversation outside a Project using the ghost control and verify its label.
This is a temporary practice conversation.
Suggest two headings for a fictional course update using only this message.
Do not reference earlier preferences or external services.
Expected result: two headings based on this message, without assuming earlier personal context. Close through the interface. Incognito excludes ordinary history and memory, but organizational retention and exports can still apply. Do not describe it as anonymity or a universal deletion guarantee.
Read Reflect as an estimate, not an audit
Reflect is a monthly recap in beta for Free, Pro and Max on Web/Desktop when memory is on; the official source excludes Team and Enterprise. Open Settings > Reflect only if you want the recap generated. The source says generation happens when navigating there.
Check selected time range and compare one theme with your own recollection. The recap can contain inaccurate proportions or narrative. It is not a precise time log or performance assessment.
The source excludes Incognito, health-integration chats and Cowork/Code activity. Raw connected-service content is not directly incorporated, but a chat summary of it can be. Mobile activity can contribute even though the recap page itself is not on mobile.
Help me assess this non-sensitive recap observation:
[paste only the observation you want to discuss].
Separate what it actually says from an interpretation.
Do not diagnose me or invent activity counts.
This prompt is optional. A generated interpretation is not a verified account audit.
Quiet hours and breaks are not locks
Open Settings > Time and focus if eligible. Current documentation describes beta controls for Free, Pro and Max, configured on Web/Desktop and applying across Web, Desktop and Mobile.
Set a break threshold or choose days/start/end times only if you want them. Quiet hours add a reminder with a Continue option; neither control is a hard lock or a spending limit. They are independent of Reflect and plan usage limits.
Inspect saved settings and remove practice choices afterward if unwanted. Do not change memory solely to get a reminder feature: focus controls work independently of the recap.
Graded practice
Easy: map settings
Explain history, memory and Incognito separately. Success: no claim that pausing deletes everything.
Intermediate: one recap observation
Inspect a theme if eligible. Success: mark uncertainty rather than treating a percentage as audited truth.
Challenging: choose and restore focus
Set a desired reminder, inspect it and restore it if temporary. Success: understand it can be dismissed and is not an account lock.
Troubleshooting
Reflect missing: inspect plan, memory, Web/Desktop and rollout. Do not reset memory.
Recap wrong: use feedback and compare to sources before relying on a claim.
Quiet hours allow continuation: that is documented behavior, not failed enforcement.
Recap off, reminders remain: the settings are independent.
